Two students from Sweden have created an invisible bicycle helmet. The device looks like a collar or scarf. When it senses abnormal behaviour it springs into action in less than 0.1 seconds producing an airbag which covers most of the riders head. Nobody likes wearing bike helmets and with over $10 million venture capital this idea is likely to become popular very quickly.

Inspiring: 16 year old with his own house
16 year old Austin Hay from the USA has built his own house on a budget making him one of the youngest people in America to have a home without a mortgage. The best part is that you could do the same thing with determination and a summer job.
Many people are currently creating their own small houses around the country in a movement known as the Tiny House Movement. The book "The Not So Big House" is credited with starting this new backlash against supersized homes.

Amazing: Maria Fischer - Real Life Hyperlink book
Maria Fischer's “Thoughts on Dreams” book had pieces of thread connecting words on its pages. Each piece of thread links to another page with more information about that word or phrase. While the book as a concept is amazing, creating the book would surely be a nightmare for a publisher.

Inspiring: Bush Rubbish Bags
This is the cleverest idea I have seen in 2011 so far. Auckland Council in New Zealand has found a way to make their curbside rubbish bags more beautiful. They have made the bags look like bushes making the area look better and more green. So simple and yet so effective.

Amazing: Beer Tap
This machine fills beer cups from the bottom and not the top. The GrinOn Industries Beer Dispenser saves time by filling up the beer quicker than other dispensors and stops bar men pouring beer with big heads. It also saves the company using it money by reducing waste beer, as the machine stops pouring when the cup is full.

Inspiring: Shadow Art

Kumi Yamashita is a young Japanese artist who has created some amazing art work. Her shadow art as shown above is crazy, so simple yet so effective.
This video is defintley worth watching as well. It shows how Kumi makes art out of the simplest things but gets such amazing detailed results, the breathing animation is really imaginative as well.

The Future: Project Natal Meet Milo
I think the level of interactivity shown here is amazing, if project natal can do this and other things like it with very little lag, Microsoft could be on to a winner

The Future: 3D DSi Game
This new Game for DSi uses the front facing camera on the DSi to see where your eyes are and then rearranges the image to that perspective. This idea is so clever, its literally 3D within the screen instead of outside it. Imagine what would happen if you added 3D glasses to the equation you would have a stupid amount of depth. This technology can change portable 3D gaming, I just hope Nintendo know about this for their new DS2.

Creative: Charlotte Gainsbourg "Heaven Can Wait"
This video reminds me of a scrap book turned to life, nearly every scene has a strange idea present and even though everything is off the wall it seems like there is some kind of connection with food.

Advert: Volkswagen: The Fun Theory
I liked these adverts so much I decided to post all three. They are a new set of viral videos from Volkswagen. The idea is to prove people will do good things for the environment if they are having fun at the same time. This is suppose to tie in with their new eco-friendly cars and prove to people you don't have to burn masses of fossil fuel to have a good time. I think the adverts don't mention the car aspect ,so it might not have their desired effect however I really want to have a go on some of those things.

Creative: Bloomframe®
This is a window that turns into a balcony at the press of a button. It is currently being shown off at trade shows but will be on the market soon. It's a clever idea and I can see it selling, it does take a while to transform though.

Creative: Dyson Fan
Sir James Dyson has always gone against the normal ways of thinking and is one of this decades best inventors. After being turned down by the big vacuum companies he created the first bag-less Vacuum Cleaner and since then has revolutionised many other household machinery. His latest invention is the blade-less desk fan, which takes air in and then multiplies it allowing you to feel a cold breeze against you.

Inspiring: Iwearyourshirt
Jason Sadler a normal guy from Jacksonville has decided to start selling himself as a real life advertising board. Sadler charged $1 a day for the first day and then charged an additional $1 for every day there after i.e. January 1st a company would have to pay $1 for him to wear the tshirt but if you wanted him to wear it on January 23 it would cost you $23. The scheme has paid off with Sadler earning over $70,000 in the first year alone.
Sadler has tried to give companies good value for money posting a Youtube video of himself wearing the shirt each day and using Twitter, Facebook and Ustream to advertise the company.

Amazing: Brainport
This electrical device records visuals through a camera and then transfers them into signals on your tongue. Your brain is able to take these signals and some how turn them into visuals. This device is set to be released in 2010, after government approval. I have to say this is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. In the future even blind people will be able to to see.

Advert: Coke Vending Machine
This advert is old but I think its such a cool idea. Created by Wieden and Kennedy (the company that made the famous Toyota advert) using a mixture of real life footage and animation. They even include little furry lips creatures to give the coke love. I wish to one day make something as cool...

Inspiring: Pool Table
This gives a new meaning to the term "pool table", coolest snooker table? Maybe.
Players play on a thick sheet of glass above a tank of water, the glass surface might effect how the ball moves though.
I'm going on holiday for the next week. Hopefully when I'm back I'll be able to showcase some of the films I've been working on and hopefully get a job.
See you in a while :)

Inspiring: Crown Fountain
Artist Jaume Plensa created this interactive piece in Millenium park in Chicago. The huge LCD screens show the faces of 1000 Chicagoans one at a time. At the end of each person's display, they purse their lips and water shoots out of their mouths.
"A fountain is the memory of nature, this marvelous sound of a little river in the mountains translated to the city. For me, a fountain doesn't mean a big jet of water. It means humidity, the origin of life.
-Jaume Plensa"
I like how this takes a normal, clever idea and gives it that 4th Dimension. I think other countries should be giving artists this same chance to display their work and ideas.
